3 insider tips to get on a recruiter’s radar 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 the job is posted

Recruiters are always preparing for future job openings by building talent pipelines. This means they’re actively searching for candidates, even when there isn’t an open role yet. This proactive approach helps companies hire faster when positions become available.

To stand out, your job search strategy needs to be just as proactive. The good news? It’s not hard or time-consuming, it will just requires some strategy, consistency, and a little insider know-how.

Here are my top 3 tips, based on 10+ years of experience building candidate pipelines and now helping recruiters do the same:

    𝟏. 𝐉𝐨𝐒𝐧 π“πšπ₯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐀𝐬
Make a list of your top 10 target companies, then visit their careers pages and join their Talent Network (also called a talent community or job alert system).

Think of this as a pre-application. You’ll submit your resume and basic info, and in return, you’ll get job alerts, company updates, and sometimes invites to exclusive events. Behind the scenes, recruiters review these submissions and may reach out before roles are posted. It’s a low-effort, high-impact way to show interest and stay on their radar.

    𝟐. π‘πžπ π’π¬ππžπ« 𝐟𝐨𝐫 π„π―πžπ§ππ¬
Recruiters host webinars, info sessions, conference booths, and virtual events to connect with candidates. Find and register for sessions at your target companies.

When you sign up, you’re added to their system and those attendee lists are gold for recruiters. You’ll often get early job alerts or outreach for roles that align with your interests. Companies track engagement, so applying through a post-event link can even bump you up in the queue.

    πŸ‘. π’ππšπ² π‚π¨π§π§πžπœππžπ π€πŸππžπ« 𝐚 π‘πžπ£πžπœππ’π¨π§
If you made it far in the interview process but didn’t get the job, don’t give up. That means you aligned with the company’s values and you just weren’t the right fit yet.

Follow up and ask for feedback. If there’s not a fit now, you may be better suited for another team or a different level. Recruiters keep notes and regularly meet with hiring managers to plan upcoming roles. Stay top of mind by checking in every couple of months with a quick update on your status and continued interest.
